Water, Sanitation & Hygiene (WaSH) – Clean Water, Healthy Lives

Water, Sanitation & Hygiene (WaSH)

Safe water and sanitation are life-saving essentials. RHD improves access to clean drinking water, sanitation facilities, and hygiene education, reducing waterborne diseases and improving school attendance for girls. Our WaSH programs empower women and children by restoring dignity, health, and time otherwise lost fetching unsafe water.

Our focus is on the following key areas:

  1. Community Water Access Systems

RHD develops solar-powered boreholes, rainwater harvesting systems, and gravity-fed water schemes to deliver safe, clean, and reliable drinking water directly to households and schools. These innovations save women and children hours spent fetching unsafe water, restoring their dignity and improving health outcomes. With donor support, every drop counts toward breaking cycles of poverty and disease.

  1. School Sanitation & Hygiene Education

We install gender-sensitive toilets, menstrual hygiene facilities, and handwashing stations in schools while embedding hygiene education into the curriculum. This improves student health, increases attendance (especially for girls), and fosters a generation that values hygiene and environmental stewardship. Donor investment ensures healthy, confident learners with equal opportunities to succeed.

  1. Hygiene Promotion & Behavior Change Campaigns

Through community workshops, radio programs, and youth-led campaigns, RHD promotes handwashing, safe water storage, and menstrual hygiene practices. These campaigns tackle harmful myths, reduce disease transmission, and empower women and youth as hygiene ambassadors. With donor backing, we spark lasting behavioral change that protects entire communities.

  1. WaSH for Vulnerable Communities

We prioritize marginalized rural villages, slums, and climate-affected regions where access to WaSH services is most critical. By integrating WaSH with nutrition, health, and education programs, RHD builds resilience and restores dignity to displaced families, orphans, and women. Donors help us deliver life-saving WaSH interventions where they are needed most.
