Our Core Focus Areas

1. Civic Engagement & Rights Advocacy: RHD empowers young women, children, youth, persons with disabilities (PWDs), and people living with HIV/AIDS (PLWHIV/AIDS) by fostering democratic engagement and enhancing civic participation. Through active citizenship, advocacy campaigns, and intercultural dialogue, we strengthen accountability, social inclusion, and policy reform.

2. Health Justice & Social Protection: We address public health challenges such as HIV/AIDS, TB, and malaria, with a focus on tackling HIV stigma affecting marginalised groups including PLWHD, SWLWH, MSM, LGBTQ+ communities, and TB patients. We advocate for sexual and reproductive health rights (SRHR), gender-based violence (GBV) prevention, and policies that remove systemic barriers to care.

3. Climate Justice, Sustainable Agriculture & Food Security: RHD champions sustainable agriculture, biodiversity conservation, and climate adaptation, working with smallholder farmers to strengthen food security and resilience. We promote equitable access to WaSH services, recognising their centrality to health and dignity. Our work includes research on climate vulnerabilities to inform pro-poor, inclusive mitigation strategies.

4. Youth Empowerment, Gender Equality & Education: We equip young people with leadership, digital, and advocacy skills through capacity building, access to education, non-formal education, mobility exchanges, and sports for peacebuilding. Our sport-based initiatives contribute to the SDGs by promoting health (SDG 3), education (SDG 4), gender equality (SDG 5), and reduced inequalities (SDG 10).

Cross-Cutting Approach: All programs integrate gender equality, inclusion, research, innovation, and community participation as core principles to ensure sustainable impact in Kenya’s rural and urban slum areas.
