Advocacy & Rights Protection and Awareness Campaigns
At RHD, we champion the rights of marginalized communities by strengthening grassroots voices, protecting human rights defenders (HRDs), and fostering inclusive participation in policymaking and accountability. Our Advocacy & Rights Protection, and Awareness Campaigns challenge harmful policies, governance, and discriminatory practices while empowering marginalized groups—including women, youth, persons with disabilities (PWDs), and people living with HIV/AIDS—to stand up against injustice. Through high-impact rights awareness drives, we shed light on critical issues such as governance, gender-based violence (GBV), stigma in healthcare, inequality, and exclusion, ensuring that the most vulnerable are not silenced.
Our initiative blends advocacy, protection, and empowerment to ensure defenders and vulnerable groups thrive in safe and enabling environments.
Areas of focus:
- Ensuring Protection & Emergency Support: We provide rapid response and safety nets for HRDs, including legal aid, psychosocial support, digital security, and emergency protection. This ensures HRDs facing threats or harassment can continue their vital work without fear.
- Strengthening Systems & Institutions: We engage policymakers, local leaders, and local institutions to reform discriminatory laws, strengthen accountability, and institutionalize human rights protections. Our community-led monitoring and research reinforce inclusive governance and compliance with human rights obligations.
- Increasing Mobilization, Visibility & Advocacy: We amplify the voices of defenders through rights awareness campaigns, grassroots storytelling, media advocacy, and coalition building. By creating platforms for dialogue, we enhance defenders’ visibility, influence, and ability to drive policy change.
Together, these actions ensure that the marginalized are not just protected but are active agents of change in shaping Kenya’s democratic and inclusive future.
